Meet Dr. Corry Duffy
My therapeutic style in session is to be curious, collaborative and strengths-based, helping clients learn to be intentional in their choices and to find meaningful ways to be in the world. I use an integrative approach including the following modalities:
Psychodynamic- I believe that our childhood experiences play a large role in how we relate to others and to ourselves, and I can help you to identify the patterns that aren't serving you any longer.
Humanistic- I believe that humans are oriented toward growth and that each of us carries our own answers within. I can help you to uncover what you need to access to feel calm, clear, and courageous.
Experiential- I believe that emotions are involuntary physiological responses designed to help us navigate our worlds, and that we often learn to block these responses as a way to adapt to our circumstances. When emotions are blocked, I believe that it can be harder to know who we are and what to do. I have specialized training in EMDR and ART, which are experiential eye movement therapies designed to target and heal emotions that are stuck.
I grew up in Duluth and returned with my family in 2015 to take advantage of the connections to nature and the slower pace of life. In the interim, I earned a BA in International Studies at Macalester College, an M.Ed in Counselor Education at the University of Texas-Austin, and a Ph.D. in Counseling and Student Personnel Psychology at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and also completed a yearlong predoctoral internship at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida.
